Disability Issues: Employment
Colorado State University provides reasonable accommodation to qualified persons with disabilities in the application and testing process for employment. To request accommodation when applying for an Academic Faculty or Administrative Professional position contact the Office of Equal Opportunity and Diversity. When applying for a State Classified position contact Human Resource Services.
Reasonable accommodation is also provided to assist current employees in performing the essential functions of a position.
Tenure-track faculty should refer to Section E.9.4 of the Academic Faculty and Administrative Professional Manual for assistance in requesting extension of the probationary period as an accommodation.
Any employee requesting reasonable accommodation must submit such a request along with appropriate medical data (see below) to the Office of Equal Opportunity and Diversity to document the disability and support the request. Requests for accommodation will be judged on a case-by case basis to determine reasonableness.
Appropriate medical data should include, but is not limited to:* 1) Documentation from a licensed or credentialed professional preferably practicing in the field of the disability described (for example a psychologist should not be used to provide documentation for an orthopedic condition). Documentation should include - 1a)A description of how the condition impacts the individual right now. 1b)Current and past accommodations, services and/or medication usage related to the condition. 2) Diagnostic statement - 2a)A description of how the condition was diagnosed, including diagnostic methods utilized. 2b)Information on the impact and typical progression of the condition. * AHEAD Best Practices Disability Documentation in Higher Education; The Association of Higher Education and Disability. |
