Allegations of Discrimination

Filing a Complaint and Procedures for the Resolution of Complaints of Unlawful Discrimination

To file a complaint, a prospective complainant must contact the Conciliation Officer, Room 101 Student Services Building or call (970) 491-5836.

  1. Both informal and formal complaints shall be submitted to the Conciliation Officer within 90 days of the alleged discrimination. The Conciliation Officer may extend this time limit but only for good cause shown, which shall be specified in writing.
  2. The Conciliation Officer shall, within ten (10) working days after the filing of a formal complaint, review the complaint to certify that issues raised are of a discriminatory nature. If, in the opinion of the Conciliation Officer, such issues are not present in the complaint, the Conciliation Officer shall recommend to the Director of the Office of Equal Opportunity and Diversity that the complaint not be forwarded to a hearing panel for formal hearing procedures. If the Director upholds the recommendation of the Conciliation Officer, the complaint process will cease at this point with a report to the Equal Opportunity Council on the denial of the complaint.
  3. A faculty member, state classified employee, or a student who files a formal complaint may choose to invoke these procedures in lieu of the Faculty Grievance Procedures, State Personnel Procedures or the Student Discipline Procedures.
